About Effective Learning and Instructional Design

My mission is to make learning effective and efficient. In teaching and learning, traditionally, we often focus on the content/knowledge we need to learn; how to learn is not fully addressed. Learning is the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught. Clearly there are many ways to learn; however, to make something learned, the learner has to interact with the thing to be learned. Usually active learning process when learners engage the materials they study through reading, writing, talking, listening and reflecting is more efficient than passive learning process in which teachers lecturing and students taking notes. Active learning is determined to be effective also because it helps students relate new knowledge/experience with existing knowledge/experience, which is more authentic and help knowledge construction.

Austrian-born American management consultant, educator, and author, Peter Drucker wrote that “Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.” (BrainyQuote) The question is how we should do the right thing and do it in the right way in learning. Effective Learning and Instructional Design is the site where I want to explore the approaches to make learning effective and efficient.
